Given that Mawrth Valliis is entirely in Martian anyway. Obviously we can try to nab the French release and have no trouble “reading” it. But is the format different? If we already have the first American release would it make more sense to either wait for the American release of the second or buy both volumes of the French or is it not particularly noticeable to mix and match as long as you’re not reading the publishing info? I don’t have my copy handy right now to check what other writing may be in there
So first of all, yes! If you can't read martian, then any edition of MV will be just as readable as the English one. You'll miss out on the indicia and legal text but that's pretty much it. However, no! Just to fuck shit up, the French edition will be a slightly different format. They insisted (against my advice) on moving it up slightly to A5. That is 15 x 20cm (roughly 6" x 8.25") the original editions (both my self published one and Image Comics') being 13.5 x 19.2 cm (roughly 5.3" x 7.5"). So just enough to make them not match. I will work closely with whoever buys the sequel (hopefully Image again) to make sure the American version is the same as the first one. The French one has a different design and a few extra pages too but it will essentially be the same content. There is also a boxed set with both books for the French edition. I'll post pictures of all of that soon.
Thanks for the detailed explanation! Depending on how nice it is maybe I’ll end up getting the box set just to have both versions, but I’ll definitely need to get the American version whenever it gets picked up and released.
Ohhh I did mini prints already of these and they are hand signed too. They will come with a copy of the book bought from OK COMICS in Leeds (UK) once it's officially released at the end of the summer. Or else, I think you have a point. Once the book is officially released, I do plan on making a few prints out of some of the pages. I think you're right about making one of this one!!
